How Does He DO That?

Are you a conservative who was disappointed by the election results but nevertheless harbor no ill will toward the incoming Obama administration?  Are you making an effort to come together and support Obama, to wish him well as he attempts to steer us through troubled waters? If so, you’re a turncoat traitor, according to conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh.  El Rushbo thinks that you shouldn’t wish Obama well because liberals didn’t want Bush to succeed in 2001, which was wrong; therefore, conservatives should get their revenge by hoping Obama doesn’t succeed either, because that’s right.

“Why?” Limbaugh demanded. “They didn’t give Bush a chance in 2000. Before he was inaugurated, the search-and-destroy mission had begun. I’m not talking about search-and-destroy, but I’ve been listening to Barack Obama for a year and a half. I know what his politics are. I know what his plans are, as he has stated them. I don’t want them to succeed.”

Liberal Activist Judges Reject Appeal Over Obama’s Citizenship

From the New York Times:

Without any comment whatsoever, the Supreme Court today declined to take up an appeal by a New Jersey man who questioned President-elect Barack Obama’s eligibility for the presidency, based on his birth to a father from Kenya and a mother who was a United States citizen.

The case, brought by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., contended that Mr. Obama could not be considered a “natural-born citizen” — a constitutional ground for becoming president of the United States — contending that he had dual nationality at birth.

The state of Hawaii has declared that Mr. Obama was born there in August of 1961, and is a United States citizen, (see FactCheck.org) but that hasn’t stopped a small squall of Internet-fueled rumors from trying to debunk his citizenship. The issue of his birth certificate has long been the subject of rumors, to the point that Mr. Obama’s Web site posted a copy of it on its “fightthesmears” mini-site to try to stanch the innuendo during the campaign.

Donofrio also claims that McCain wasn’t eligible to become President because he was born (on a US military base) in Panama. It’s good that we have xenophobes citizens willing to look out for our best interests, eh? Too bad those pesky liberal activitist judges rejected this true American’s appeal.

Seriousy, though: I, for one, would have been somewhat beyond irritated if we’d ended up with Ralph Nader as President because of this wackjob Donofrio.

This part of the article in particular tickled me:

Last week, Top of the Ticket, the politics blog of The Los Angeles Times, noted that none other than Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was circulating Mr. Donofrio’s appeal for consideration among the members of the highest court. And because the state of Hawaii would not release the original birth certificate — birth certificates aren’t public record there (released only to the family) — various sites have pondered the veracity of the document published by the Obama campaign, even as the state’s officials themselves have declared it valid.

Captain Silver himself is fanning the flames of this ridiculous rumor? I don’t know about you, but I expect a much better bullshit meter, and a lot less politicking, from my Supreme Court justices.

Obama Win Causes Obsessive Supporters To Realize How Empty Their Lives Are

I don’t know anyone like that, do you? Heh, heh.  Why? What have you heard?

I did wonder a bit, before the election was over, what I’d spend my time thinking about afterward.  Turns out that there’s endless speculation about Obama’s cabinet to mull, future GOP rivals to wonder about, and even a few Senate races left undecided. So, all this talk about the election being “over” and people needing to “get over it” or to “get a real life” seem a bit premature, to me.

Beyond that, I can fill the void with early holiday shopping. Just trying to stimulate the economy!

Disgusting Cowardice

McCain aides, depressed over the crushing loss and probably attempting to save their own careers as political consultants, have enthusiastically blamed Governor Sarah Palin for the loss.

They’ve been leaking tidbits to Fox News. Tidbits like (I’m paraphrasing) “Palin didn’t understand that Africa is a continent and not a county…and asked whether South Africa is really just the southern part of the African country” and “Palin didn’t understand basic civics” and “Palin didn’t understand the nations involved in NAFTA” and “couldn’t name all the countries in North America”.

While I can appreciate this in a Wow I’m Glad She’s Not in Charge kind of way, I think it’s pathetic that the campaign is smearing her and attempting to blame her for the loss.

For once, Michelle Malkin and I agree on something!

If all of these things about Palin are true, whose fault is it?

Hint: It’s the fault of the damn people who chose her without vetting.

How dare the McCain aides blame her for the loss? McCain campaign staffers: you should be blaming yourselves. She was the weakest candidate I’ve ever seen for the position, and you are responsible for choosing her. YOU.

YOU are also responsible for turning this unknown quantity loose to campaign in the nastiest, most fearmongering way possible. YOU are responsible for the millions of McCain supporters who today say that, in addition to being disappointed and depressed by the election outcome, they are literally afraid of President-elect Obama.

If your job is to run campaigns, YOU need to take responsibility for them.

YOU.

If she had, instead, helped McCain to win on election day, you would have clapped each other on the back and congratulated yourselves for the brilliant choice.

Instead, in the wake of the rejection of your ticket, you’re blaming her? Leaking little snide comments in order to make yourselves look better?

No. No way. Look in the mirror. The problem was YOU.

Take responsibility for yourselves.

What a night

Barack Obama will be our 44th President.

President-Elect Barack Obama

I don’t have the right words to express the enormity of last night’s election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. I’m thrilled, awed, and relieved. And hopeful.

Today, I will uncritically allow the good feelings to flow.

Tomorrow, perhaps, I’ll begin the necessary process of taking a step back. I hope that Obama will be a great President. Certainly we’ve taken a big step forward in electing him, and decisively. But the next step is really the important one: we need to stay vigilant, be willing to appropriately praise and criticize, and respectfully demand that our leaders work for us.

One man, no matter how inspiring, is not the solution. We are the solution.
